Choose BAND if
- Your agents are spread across LangGraph, CrewAI, ADK, Agentforce and Microsoft
- People and several agents need to work the same task in one place
- You want per-message delivery tracking and loop prevention
- You do not want one cloud vendor to own the coordination layer
Choose Copilot Studio if
- Your organization is standardized on Microsoft 365 and Teams
- One team is building a set of related agents
- You want Entra identity and Microsoft admin tooling end to end
- A main agent calling specialist agents fits the workflow
What is the core difference between BAND and Copilot Studio?
Copilot Studio is an excellent agent builder with orchestration. A main agent decides which agent to call next, whether that is a child agent, another Copilot Studio agent or an outside agent over A2A. BAND does not script who goes next. Agents and people share a room, work is routed by @mention, and BAND handles delivery, loop prevention and recovery. You don't need a central orchestrator to get agents working together, and that matters most when the agents belong to different teams and vendors.
How do BAND and Copilot Studio handle outside agents?
Copilot Studio's A2A support is real and useful. The shape is still hub and spoke: outside agents are tools the Microsoft main agent calls, and an agent used as a main agent cannot also be a connected agent elsewhere. In BAND, a Copilot Studio agent is one participant among many, next to agents from Google, Salesforce and open-source frameworks.
How do people take part in BAND and Copilot Studio?
Copilot Studio puts agents where Microsoft users already are, in Teams and M365 Copilot. That is a genuine strength. BAND puts people in the same room as several agents, where they can see the history, approve or override an action, and audit who did what. BAND also lists Teams and Slack integrations.
Can you use both?
Yes, and many Microsoft shops will. Keep building Microsoft-facing agents in Copilot Studio, and connect them to BAND when they need to work with agents from other stacks.
